In March 2002, Willkie opened the Brussels office, which today comprises lawyers specializing in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities, commercial litigation, business reorganization and restructuring, and EU competition and antitrust law.  In January 2009, a team of experienced banking, financial and insolvency lawyers joined the Brussels team. The opening of the Brussels office follows the firm’s previous office openings in Milan, Rome and Frankfurt. Willkie also has a well-established presence in Washington, D.C. and London.

Our lawyers in Brussels embrace the firm tradition of providing a high level of personal service, delivering to clients tailored legal assistance as well as practical and creative solutions to complex situations, transactions and litigations. We have considerable experience handling some of the most important public and private business transactions in Belgium and abroad. Our lawyers have unparalleled expertise in our core practice areas, which include corporate, banking, finance, European and national competition law, and litigation (including Supreme Court litigation).

Partner Xavier Dieux, who heads the Brussels office, was previously named Best Belgian Lawyer by Chambers Global.

To broaden their expertise and enhance their preparedness to anticipate and handle all potential legal issues arising out of a particular situation, we encourage our lawyers to take on a wide range of legal matters and issues. This also promotes a team spirit, which further strengthens the overall legal support offered to our clients. Additionally, many of our lawyers also hold academic positions and have written extensively on a variety of topics, enhancing their knowledge of important regulatory and case law developments in all sectors of business law.

Our sharp and pragmatic approach helps us to understand the business of our clients, as well as their requirements and expectations.

We serve a diverse Belgian and international client base, ranging from local entrepreneurs to multinational corporations. A significant part of our work involves at least one non-Belgian party. The members of our office practice in French, English and Dutch and are experienced in handling large, cross-border transactions. Additionally, in connection with complex, multinational matters, the Brussels office works closely with the other Willkie offices and with experienced business law firms all over the world.
